Heritage tourism is a significant contributor to the tourism sector in India. Efforts are being made to improve traveller’s experiences at heritage sites and the advancement of the digital age offers excellent opportunities to enable this.
The Heritage Project, too, focuses on digital heritage experiences and has developed Amble – a self-guided heritage walks mobile application. The app is endorsed by Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) and Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

It also takes you to the Rajabai Clock Tower, modelled after the Big Ben, and the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya (formerly known as the Prince of Wales Museum), which houses an exquisite collection of over 6,000 artifacts. This walk takes you through impressive and culture-rich sites and ends at the famous Gateway of India.
The beautiful Castella De Aguada or Bandra Fort built in 1640 by the Portuguese, and 16th century Mount Mary Church made it into this walk. Places of interest also include Bollywood's spectacular Mehboob Studios which spread over an area of more than 20,000 square yards, and famous food gems such as A1 Bakery & Hearsch Bakery.
The Banganga Heritage Walk lets you explore the ancient Precinct, which houses various temples like the Mahalakshmi Temple, Ganapati Temple, Walkeshwar Temple, the temple with the towering white shikhara - Rameshwar Temple, Rama Kund, and the Dasmaniya Akhada. The walk also features an Augmented Reality experience of the Banganga Tank, which takes a user back in time.
