About Us

The Heritage Project (THP) is a non-profit organisation dedicated to the preservation, promotion, and revitalization of India’s cultural heritage. We believe that heritage is not just about conserving the past, it’s about engaging with it meaningfully to build more inclusive, resilient, and connected communities.

Research

At the heart of our work is a commitment to build knowledge that sustains heritage. Through our research initiatives, we learn from the past, document local histories and traditions, and identify what is at risk of being lost. Our documentation is grounded in evidence-based primary and secondary research.

Stakeholder Engagement

Heritage is shaped by the people and institutions connected to it. We engage communities, government, private entities, NGOs, experts, funding agencies and research institutions to understand diverse perspectives, build local capacity, and shape meaningful interventions.

Activation

We translate knowledge into action through heritage-sensitive interventions that make places more visible, accessible and welcoming. Through physical interventions, public outreach, and print and digital mediums, we connect people with heritage while creating opportunities for livelihoods.

Sustainability

We work towards heritage that can thrive beyond individual interventions. By cultivating pride and stewardship, assessing impact, and building sustainable economic models, we bring stakeholders together to create shared ownership, resources and responsibilities for the future.

At The Heritage Project our goal is to transform heritage from a passive memory into an active force. By combining research with empathy, and preservation with innovation, we hope to inspire a generation of heritage custodians who care, act, and create.
