SIGNAGES FOR A UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE SITE IN MUMBAI

The Heritage Project, in collaboration with the Urban Design Research Institute (UDRI) in 2018, funded a comprehensive signage plan for 94 buildings in South Mumbai's Fort precinct which were designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. These buildings showcase a blend of European and Indian architectural styles which resulted in the city's distinct Victorian Gothic and Art Deco architecture, which represents Mumbai's rich heritage and architectural evolution. The key stakeholders include the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and the Federation of Residents Trust (FORT). The 206 signages installed were aimed at enhancing awareness, guiding visitors, and fostering a sense of public responsibility towards these heritage sites.
